The Philippines is one of only two countries in the world where divorce is not legalized (the other being the Vatican City). I randomly came across this fact as I was reading up on one of the presidential candidates Mar Roxas. In a recent interview he shared that he was against both divorce and gay marriage. Honestly, I'm not sure how much these views will affect his campaign. There is a process of annulment that is allowed, but it is a very slow, difficult, and costly process. Not to mention that an annulment is different from divorce in some very important legal ways. Not to dwell on this subject, but I thought it was interesting and something that I didn't know about the Philippines. I found an article that talks about this subject in a more personal context.
