We've made it to the land of the Kiwi's. It's only been a couple days, but so far we can say that this country is beautiful. We started our trip in Christchurch which is the largest city on the South Island. The city was devastated by a series of earthquakes in 2010-2011 and it's still very much in the process of rebuilding. We took the TranzAlpine Train over the Southern Alps to the city of Greymouth (a really scenic 4 hour trip). We picked up our rental car in Greymouth and drove 180 km south to the city of Franz Josef. Our two highlights in Franz Josef were seeing Kiwis at the wildlife sanctuary and taking a helicopter ride to the top of the glacier. Hard to pick out which photos to post but here's some to start with:

wow wow wow!! what a dream!
