Toby Too

Toby also needed some coaxing from mom and dad to try out for the elementary school soccer team. He loved playing soccer in Angola but somehow lost the desire once we moved to the big city of Manila. I realize they have been forced into so many different transitions at a young age. Generally they have handled them without skipping a beat. But I guess there is always some pressure involved in "tryouts". I must sound like Miss Frizzle to them because I keep saying "take chances, make mistakes, get messy." I didn't want to completely reassure them that everyone would make the team (even though everyone did in both cases). But I feel like they will grow in so many character traits by not missing out on these opportunities. So Toby is also happy now to be officially on the team.

First day of tryouts

Coach Mike calls Toby by his last name even though he uses first names for the other kids. I guess Lee is easier and quicker to yell out.

Trying to rest in the little bits of shade on the field.

Official roster published. An international hodgepodge.
