So we have hired a house helper named Rosalyn (aka Rose). So far she has been super helpful and a great person to have with us. We are teaching her how to cook some of our favorite meals as well as giving her recipes to try. I have been spoiled by not having to spend much time in the kitchen. Rose lives with us in the "maids quarters" which has a separate entrance near the kitchen (weird, even our hotel room had a maids quarters). Her off day is on Sunday when she gets to go home and spend time with her family. I know. Sounds cruel. That's what I was thinking. But I guess this is normal here. There are tons and tons of live-in house helpers both for local residents and ex-pats. Working for an ex-pat is a desirable job because the pay is usually a lot higher and they get generally get treated a lot better. Still not sure that makes it right to be away from your family so much, but Rose has been doing this for a long time. She doesn't have any children (yet) but her poor husband only gets to see her once a week. We are grateful to have her and welcome her as a part of our family. My new BFF:
