Took a trip to MOP which is about 30-40 minutes away (depending on traffic). A pretty small place (in terms of amusement parks) that has a handful of different shows/exhibits. A nice way to spend a Saturday with the kids.
Even though the kids have seen a lot of wildlife in their short lives, they still enjoy seeing animals of all kinds. Usually there are at least a few new or different things that catches their attention. Didn't get a picture of them but we saw puffer fish the size of a big watermelon!
Something we haven't experienced in a long time. Snow. Well, at least man-made snow in a giant freezer. They had an Antarctica exhibit which we checked out for about 3 minutes. Took this picture and pretty much skedaddled.
The kids always enjoy seeing jellyfish. There was a section at the MOP with a bunch of different tanks which were impressive. Thinking we were done, we casually walked into the next room which had another series of tanks and mirrored walls everywhere. Felt like we were inside a huge school of them.
Probably the highlight of the day was watching the sea lion show. We also saw a bird show in the same amphitheater but the sea lions were much more entertaining. Very well trained. Fun to watch in the water and on land.
We visited the Birds of Prey section which is a large, net-enclosed area of the park. All the birds are free to fly around as they please. This eagle landed on a branch right next to us. Toby's instinct was to reach out and try to pet the bird. Just as his hand was about to touch the eagle, it snapped at him (and luckily missed). We forgot to give Toby the "do not touch any of the birds" talk ahead of time.
