I got to be a chaperone on Toby's class field trip this week. His class is learning about how plants grow and their importance to humans. We walked (15 minutes) to a local market that sells all kinds of different plants and fresh cut flowers. Each of the kids got to choose a plant to buy and bring back to class as part of the learning unit (parents were encouraged to send their kids to school with 3-4 dollars to spend). For some reason, Toby picked out a rosemary plant. Then his buddy Francisco decided to do the same. They named their plants Bob and Bob Junior. Maya who was the third child in my group had a hard time deciding what to get. But she remembered her mom saying she should buy a plant that has flowers on it. In the end she decided on an orchid. And only cost her 80 pesos (less than 2 bucks)! Nice to have the luxury of going on these trips with the kiddos.
