Although the Philippines is probably considered a "third world country" on paper, it's hard to reconcile this when you see things like a drive thru Starbucks. Much like Angola, there is so much growth happening here - economic development, infrastructure improvements, you name it. The fact that you can find so many international chain stores in Manila is a good sign for the country.
