For this 3-day weekend we planned a trip up north to San Juan. It's a 5-hour drive from Manila. Surprisingly, there are only a handful of places in the Philippines to go surfing (with more than 7,000 islands you'd figure there would be tons). San Juan is a popular spot since it's within a reasonable driving distance. You can have a private lesson (including the board rental) for 400 pesos an hour ($8.50). Unfortunately, our timing was not so good. Typhoon Goni spoiled our plans. We were hoping to get lucky with the weather but I guess in the Philippines there's always a chance for Mother Nature to have a different agenda.
It doesn't take long for the boys to lay down in the car when we start on a road trip.
Especially when they bring a pillow and blanket.
It is so much greener outside of the city. Tons of rice fields along the way.
We did make it out to the beach in between the wind and rain.
Toby on the prowl for anything living in the water.
It doesn't look too bad in this picture, but the wind and rain was coming pretty hard even though we were far from the path of the typhoon.
We were watching one crazy guy who actually went into the water hoping to catch some waves.
We stayed at a place called "The Awesome Hotel". For a sleepy little beach town, it actually was pretty awesome.
Not the surfing weekend we had hoped for but still thankful for the chance to travel and see other parts of the Philippines.
