After I dropped the boys off at school I started to walk to the gym which only takes about 10 minutes. It's 7:30 in the morning and I see these two boys sleeping on the sidewalk. I stop and look around. There is no parent looking after them. In the busyness of the morning rush, people are walking by without paying much attention. This is generally not an area where you see indigent people. I slowly walk away but only make it about 1/2 a block. I ask myself if I have my wallet. Yes. I go back to the market and buy some bananas and mangos. I don't want to wake them from their sleep. Who knows what the night before was like for them. I leave the bag of fruit behind them trusting that they will be the ones who get to eat them. I eventually made it to the gym and worked out with a bit of extra adrenaline - probably a combination of sadness and anger after seeing these two boys. What a life. Not supposed to be like this. Where is their childhood? There is only one hope.
