Child Evangelism Fellowship

Went to visit a public school on the outskirts of Manila. CEF is an organization that actually started in Chicago back in 1937. They are now operating in 190 countries around the world. The CEF model involves training leaders who will go out and share the gospel with children through various ministries. Today at San Isidro I got to observe a group of CEF leaders who regularly come in and teach a 60-minute bible lesson through songs, stories, and bible verses. Two main observations: (1) I was surprised to find out that San Isidro is a public school. I guess I'm used to a clear separation between the church and state. Here, the administrators of this particular school have welcomed a Christian non-profit organization to come in and teach the bible in a classroom setting. Can you imagine the reaction that this would receive from parents in the US? (2) I visited a 6th grade classroom with about 40 students. I was amazed at how attentive and well behaved they were with the CEF teachers. They were all willing to listen and actively participate during the hour long session. No attitudes. No eye rolling. Can you imagine the reaction that this would receive from students in the US?
