The Journey Continues: We have been given the opportunity to live in Manila for the next three years! Grace will be taking on a new role as Finance Manager and I will continue suffering as an ex-pat spouse. But seriously, I'm hoping to do some work and keep my PT brain and hands going so I don't forget everything. A great place to come and visit. We'd love to have you over or meet up somewhere in Asia.

BPO Capital of the World
This was an interesting article that describes the business culture here in the Philippines. BPO really is a way of life for many of the younger Filipino workers. There are many side stories that can be written here. Sadly, $700 a month is considered a lot of money in this country (and we're talking about jobs in the heart of the central business district for someone well educated - not on some farm out in the countryside). The ability to speak English is a huge asset when looking for a job but that does require higher levels of schooling (and the ability to afford it). Customer service is engrained in the Filipino culture. It's one of the most obvious traits that visitors to this country will notice. I can imagine the work stress that comes with dealing with angry customers on the phone. I will try to remember to be more patient whenever I have to call a customer service number. I know that life is not easy for these workers. I guess the bottom line is that BPO is growing the economy and providing more and more jobs in the Philippines.
