Anilao

After a stopover at the Fun Farm we kept heading south to an area called Batangas. It's on the bottom edge of the main part of Luzon (island where Manila is located). About a 2.5 hour drive to a place called Mabini (or Anilao) which is a popular peninsula for scuba diving and snorkeling. We reserved a couple rooms at Dive Solana which is one of maybe a dozen quaint places to stay right on the coast.

We arrived close to dinner time which gave the boys just enough time to explore the beach and tide pools. Of course, they caught some small crabs and hermit carbs and built them a small habitat to play in.

Thanks to Auntie Jeannie for offering to take a family photo for us. We need more of these. Especially with sunsets like this.

The boys were so anxious to get into the water. Unfortunately we could only admire it from dry land. But the view was incredibly nice and peaceful.

The morning brought a perfect blend of clouds and sunshine. We have been fortunate with Mother Nature. No rain coming down on us despite it being rainy season.

Took a 15-minute ride on a local "banca" boat that's been outfitted with a motor. Of course Toby had to bring his tupperware box filled with sand, coral and hermit crabs.

Our destination was Sombrero Island which is this tiny little piece of land with a small white sand beach. Perfect for the kiddos.

We all went snorkeling in this clear and warm water. I was shocked at the amazing fish and coral that surrounded this small island. Probably the best we have ever experienced. About 30 yards into the water there is a huge drop off where the water quickly becomes so deep that you can't see the bottom.  Super cool to snorkel along that edge.

A more traditional banca boat that made for a postcard-like picture. Not a bad place to spend the afternoon.

Another spectacular view looking towards the south. In the distance are another group of islands that make up the 7,000 plus islands that are part of the Philippines.
