100 Trees in a Bucket

Epifanio de los Santos Avenue also known as EDSA is the longest and most congested highway in Metro Manila. It is a 12-lane road that cuts right through the heart of the city. It can often look a parking lot during commute hours and even on weekends and holidays. I'm usually on this road or crossing it everyday and I just learned something new about it. I've noticed murals that have been painted along stretches of the road but have never paid much attention to them. The artwork is interesting but the paint is pretty fascinating. I found the following video which is about 7-minutes long. It has some interesting footage. But to summarize the video, the paint that is used for these murals is actually helping to decrease the air pollution. Small particles of titanium dioxide in the paint are neutralizing nitrogen oxide into harmless quantities of calcium nitrate and carbon dioxide and water. Pretty cool science-y stuff. One bucket of this specialized paint is equivalent to planting 100 trees. I get no kickbacks for clicking on the link. Watch the video when you have a chance.
