Tuki Trip

An old buddy came to Manila for a business trip. He stayed an extra couple days to do some sightseeing. We went to the islands of Negros and Cebu. Here's some highlights from our trip:

One of our main modes of transportation was the "trike". Felt like we were locals but I'm sure the drivers could tell right away that we were tourists.

We flew to Dumaguete City (90 minutes) and took a ferry ride to Port Liloan (20 minutes). You could take a "fast boat", a "slow boat", or a "slower boat" depending on how much you wanted to pay. Yeah, we took the "fast boat" which was 62 pesos ($1.40)

We stayed in a small town called Oslob at the Malonzo Pension House - a small BnB with only four rooms. The owner Eva and her family treated us with great hospitality. A nicely renovated house in the middle of nowhere - probably bought with the family's pension?

These lovebirds were on the bed when we opened the door. Yikes! We didn't ask for the honeymoon suite.

This is Tumalog Falls. It's pretty stunning. Different than most waterfalls that are strong and powerful. This place is more mystical and would make for a great movie location. The water trickles down more like a shower and the pool at the bottom is crystal clear.

The highlight of our trip was going to the town of Tan-awan to swim with whalesharks, locally known as tuki. These fish are huge. Even though they are very peaceful creatures it was impossible to stay calm when you got up close and personal with these giants. We got to spend 30 minutes in the water with multiple whalesharks around us. Unforgettable experience.
